LiFePO4 home UPS with 5-year warranty: what to check before you buy
A 5-year warranty on a lithium home UPS sounds simple. The details decide whether it protects you.
Why lithium UPS batteries now come with 5 years
LiFePO4 (lithium iron phosphate) cells last thousands of charge cycles, so manufacturers can offer longer cover than on most lead-acid batteries. Vikram Solar's VION range, for example, offers warranty of up to 60 months, which is five years.
Two batteries can both say "5 years" and still give you very different protection. Read the warranty card for these points.
Seven things to check in the warranty
- Full replacement or pro-rata. Full replacement means a new battery for any covered fault within the period. Pro-rata means you pay part of the price for a replacement, and that part grows every year.
- What counts as a failure. Many lithium warranties cover the battery until its capacity falls below a set level, often around 70–80% of the original. Ask what that level is.
- Cycle limit. Some warranties end at 5 years or a set number of cycles, whichever comes first. With daily power cuts, a cycle limit can end the cover early.
- Registration. Some brands need the warranty registered online or by the dealer within a few days of purchase. Keep the invoice and the registration message.
- Authorised installation. Warranty may depend on installation by an authorised dealer with a compatible inverter.
- Exclusions. Look for water damage, overloading, physical damage, and opening the battery. Keep the battery in a dry, ventilated place.
- Who services it locally. A warranty is only useful if someone nearby handles claims. Ask who you call, and how long a replacement takes.

- Long life. Thousands of cycles, compared with roughly 1,000–1,500 for most tubular batteries.
- No maintenance. No distilled water, no acid, no terminal corrosion.
